KIRO 7 News
KIRO 7 News is a local news television station in Seattle, Washington, United States. The station is owned by the Hearst Corporation and broadcasts on virtual channel 7 (UHF digital channel 43), using a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 43.2. KIRO maintains studios at the Seattle Center in downtown Seattle, and its transmitter is located in Tukwila.
KIRO began broadcasting on December 3, 1961 as an ABC affiliate. It was founded by Charles Moore, who also founded KING-TV (now KQED-TV) in San Francisco. Moore sold KIRO to the Hearst Corporation in 1984. In 1995, KIRO became a CBS affiliate after NBC decided not to renew its affiliation agreement with ABC after the network’s merger with The Walt Disney Company.
In 2003, KIRO began broadcasting a newscast in high definition; however, it retained its standard definition feed until September 5, 2009 when it switched to a full HD feed as part of an upgrade to all Hearst-owned stations nationwide. On that date, Hearst also launched a new website for all of its stations which featured full HD video streaming and live streaming of local newscasts on their websites; however, due to technical difficulties with the live streaming feature (which was later resolved), only some Hearst-owned stations – including KIRO – actually implemented this feature at launch.
On January 24th of 2018 KIRO aired their first ever live streamed local newscast from their downtown Seattle studios during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address

KING 5 first signed on the air on September 18, 1956 as the second television station in the Pacific Northwest after KIRO-TV (channel 7). It was founded by the Graham family of Seattle. The original call letters were KIRO-TV 2. For most of its history, KING 5 has been a major network affiliate with programming from all four major U.S. broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox), as well as PBS and other independent stations. However, since the late 1990s it has become a primarily independent station with a focus on local news and information programming.
In March 2009, Hearst Corporation announced that it would sell its 20% stake in KING Broadcasting to Fisher Communications; this sale was completed on May 15 of that year. In February 2013, Fisher Communications merged with Media General to form Hearst Television; as part of this merger Hearst Corporation transferred ownership of KING 5 to Media General (which also owns ABC affiliate KOMO-TV).
